A water heater can display many symptoms when it has a problem, and not all of them will result in cold water. Here are some of the most common indications of water heater problems:
If you notice any of these symptoms, contact our team at The Witmer Company for repairs. Our plumbing experts will examine your water heater and recommend the most cost-effective repair options.
At The Witmer Company, our plumbing experts can repair most common water heater problems, including:
We service all types of water heaters, including gas, propane, electric, storage tank, and tankless models, and we offer complete replacement services for when repairs are not possible, such as when the water tank is corroded through or the heat exchanger is leaking. To prevent unnecessary repairs and failures, we also offer routine maintenance services, which include things such as draining sediment from the tank, replacing the anode, or flushing the heat exchanger on tankless models.
Water leaks usually occur as drips from the top, leaks from the bottom, or leaky pipes. These leaks can be caused by defective seals, rusted pipes, or internal tank leaks.
If you see water around your hot water tank, you should schedule a service appointment right away to identify the precise cause.
If you hear a rumbling from your hot water tank, it’s likely because it is filled with sediment. As sediment builds up, it will reduce hot water capacity.
Draining the sediment should resolve the problem and restore the water heater’s normal hot water capacity.
Tankless water heaters are extremely efficient, with most systems providing a near-constant supply of hot water. Tankless systems are an eco-friendly option that will deliver superior performance.
The key to choosing the right tankless system is selecting a unit with a flow rate suitable for your family’s needs.
This issue is likely with your plumbing itself, not your water heater. The further the water has to travel through the home’s plumbing system, the longer it will take to reach the faucet/shower.
A tankless system can alleviate this problem by placing the hot water directly beside the faucet/shower, significantly reducing distance and wait time.
There are many ways you can reduce your water consumption without negatively affecting your daily routines. To that end, we recommend the following steps:
If your water heater is not working as well as it should, do not hesitate to call our licensed technicians at The Witmer Company for affordable, reliable repairs anywhere in the New Holland or Lancaster areas.

"We called to schedule a tune-up on a Friday and were able to get a Monday morning appointment. Our technician (Adam) kept us informed of when he was going to arrive, the work is was doing while here, all PPE needed and precautions due to the virus were in place. Booties were worn to keep the house clean and a copy of all work performed was provided for reference. Overall, we were pleased with the professionalism, promptness and service provided."
